Blurb (from Goodreads):
Only the bravest go over the Horizon...
Twenty years ago the barriers between worlds came down and our reality was swallowed up by the Shadowlands. Now we scavenge to survive, until one day there’s nothing left to reap. Starvation is around the corner, but I’m not the roll over and wait-to-die kinda girl. Nope, I’m going further than anyone has ever been and returned to tell the tale. I’m going into the Beyond, and I’m not coming back without a solution.
Dark urban fantasy with a post-apocalyptic twist.
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
"Shelter is an underground bunker, built for an apocalypse, and it's served us well, but resources are limited and only those with skills, able to contribute to the survival of the human race get entry.”
This was an adult sci-fi/fantasy story, sent in a post-apocalyptic London.
Ash was quite a stubborn character, and she consistently fought to do what she wanted to do, even if it meant putting her life in danger, or faking her own death. She did fight for her friends though, even when things looked dire.
The storyline in this was about Ash and a friend crossing the border from where they lived to where the ‘shadowlanders’ lived, in search of food. We then got some action, and Ash seemed to get herself into even more trouble. We also had a few sexual encounters, but no real romance to speak of.
The ending to this just seemed to leave us in the middle of the story, which was a little disappointing.
6 out of 10.
