Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die #1) by Danielle Paige

Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die, #1)
Blurb (from Goodreads):
I didn't ask for any of this. I didn't ask to be some kind of hero.

But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado—taking you with it—you have no choice but to go along, you know?

Sure, I've read the books. I've seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little blue birds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can't be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There's still the yellow brick road, though—but even that's crumbling.

What happened? Dorothy.

They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.

My name is Amy Gumm—and I'm the other girl from Kansas.

I've been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.

I've been trained to fight.

And I have a mission.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die, #1)(Source: I own a copy of this book.)
This was a really good ‘Wizard of Oz’ story, and I enjoyed it.

Amy was an interesting character, I felt quite sorry for her at the beginning in the way she was bullied, and then the way she was initially treated in Oz wasn’t much better! I did have my doubts as to whether she was really up to the task she was given, and these doubts seemed to play out fairly well.

The storyline in this was good, and I liked that it was believable as a ‘Wizard of Oz’ story. I did find the story to be long, and it did seem to take a long while to get through it, but the story was enjoyable. The plans for Dorothy’s assassination seemed a little suspect at times, and I wasn’t surprised that they didn’t really work very well.
There was a little bit of romance in this, but it really was tiny.

The ending to this was good, and gave us an idea of where the story will take us in the next book. There were some twists that I didn’t see coming, and Amy’s behaviour shocked me at points as well. Looking forward to the next book now!
Overall; Good ‘Wizard of Oz’ story,
7.5 out of 10.
