The Worst Girlfriend in the World
Blurb (from Goodreads):
My best friend was now my deadliest enemy, the one person I'd hate beyond all measure for the rest of my life . . .

Franny Barker's best friend, Alice, is the worst girlfriend in the world according to the many boys of Merrycliffe-on-Sea. She toys with them, then dumps them. But she'll never dump fashion-obsessed Franny. Nothing and no one can come between them.

Not even tousle-haired rock god, Louis Allen, who Franny's been crushing on hard. Until Alice, bored with immature boys and jealous of Franny's new college friends, sets her sights on Louis. Suddenly, best friends are bitter rivals.

Is winning Louis's heart worth more than their friendship? There's only one way for Franny to find out.

16-year-old Franny is best friends with Alice, a girl who according to the graffiti in the boy’s toilets is ‘the worst girlfriend in the world’. When Alice decides to make a play for Louis, the boy who Alice has had a crush on for 4 years, Franny is understandably upset.
Who will win Louis first? And should boys be allowed to come between friends?

I had hoped that this book was going to be fun, but unfortunately I was disappointed.

Franny was a bit of an odd character, and it was difficult to see why Alice was her best friend. Never mind being the worst girlfriend in the world, she was quite possibly the worst best friend in the world too. Cutting off your best friend’s hair so that you have a better chance with the boy she fancies is awful!

The storyline in this was okay, but I quickly lost interest. Alice’s behaviour as a best friend wasn’t nice, the way Franny just put up with it was bad too, and some of the things the characters talked about were ridiculous. Alice thought nothing of asking Franny to bunk off an important GCSE class, whilst Louis thought that chicken’s had testicles and nipples. Really.

There was some romance, but unfortunately it mostly entailed a contest between Franny and Alice to see who could get Louis to change his facebook relationship status first. Not very impressive really.

The ending was okay, and it was nice that the girls were still friend by the end. I was just glad that it was over though.
Overall; not good,
4.5 out of 10.
