A Vampire's Saving Embrace
Blurb (from Goodreads):

Abby is intrigued by the gorgeous man who seems to be watching her in the bar where she works, but she never thought she'd be so pleased to see him as when he rescues her from certain death at the hands of a demon as she is walking home from work through the park.

Abby is in for more than she bargained for though, when it turns out that not only is the gorgeous Desmond really a centuries-old vampire, but she is half-fey herself.
Suddenly caught up in a battle she previously knew nothing about, poor Abby is about to find that her life will never be the same.
Can Desmond save her from the nasties that are out to get her? Can Abby stop herself from falling for the gorgeous vampire? And is it true that vampires mate for life?

This was a fun paranormal romance, although I did feel it became a little predictable towards the end.

Abby was an interesting character. I got the impression at the beginning that she was quite tough, and capable of looking after herself, but she did then seem to happily play the damsel in distress once Desmond came along. I can't say I really blamed her, I'm pretty sure I'd have been happy to play damsel in distress to a hunky vampire too, but I just expected Abby to have a little more spunk!
I was also a bit concerned that she didn't seem to even consider that her best friend Kat might be worried about her considering the fact that she has obviously been missing for days!

Desmond was definitely a sexy character. Right from the very first page he smouldered, and it was easy to see why Abby fell for him. He did become very territorial towards Abby at the end of the story, and even a little sappy, but what can I say? He was obviously in love. He did come out with the good old 'mine' line too – these vampires just want to claim you don't they?

The romance was sweet at times, and Abby and Desmond didn't immediately fall in love with each other which was nice. There were some steamy moments too, which certainly got the heart racing.

I did like the humour in this book also, Abby came out with some really funny lines, which really made me laugh!

I liked the storyline in this book, although it was very reminiscent of a lot of other similar vampire-romance stories. Maybe I've just read too many, but it was quite easy to guess what would happen next. There was a storyline about supernatural beings mating, someone out there who wanted to harm Abby, the obvious storyline about Abby and Desmond falling in love, and quite a lot of people in Abby's life turned out to be supernatural too, which was a little hard to swallow for me. Would she not have noticed that someone who she claimed to know really well was not 100% normal? Not sure. I have to say that the beginning of the story was much less easy to guess at though, and the author did put in some interesting touches with regards to the vampires special abilities and exposure to sunlight etc.
I did like the ending, it was very fitting, and I think there may have even been a big hint as to which too lovelies the next story in the series will focus on.
Overall; a fun and sexy vampire romance, if a little formulaic in places.
6.75 out of 10.

  1. It guess it can be hard not to be formulaic after awhile. Oh, well, at least there were still parts you liked, right? =)

  2. I can get over predictability. I really love that cover.
