Giveaway 1 - GPS With Benefits by Vanessa Morgan

GPS with Benefits by Vanessa Morgan

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

GPS with Benefits(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to Vanessa Morgan.)
GPS with benefits is a short story about a man test-driving a new GPS unit, one that hits him when he stares at girls instead of paying attention to the road. It is written in the style of a screen-play, and is very short, more an advert than a film really.
Overall the tale is quite funny, and the idea is so good that it could probably have been expanded to be a bit longer.

Interview with the Author -

Vanessa Morgan

Hi Vanessa - Welcome to the Blog!
When did you start writing?

When I saw Faulkner's "As I Lay Dying" on stage in London. I was in my early twenties back then. It took me a few years though to gain confidence and to start reacting upon that desire.
What was your inspiration for ‘GPS with Benefits’?
The inspiration for GPS WITH BENEFITS came to me when I was in the car with a friend. We made jokes about the GPS device and imagined what it would be like if the GPS was actually alive. I immediately knew that these ideas could be turned into a hilarious story. I won’t reveal more, but GPS WITH BENEFITS has some twists and turns that you won’t expect and that will have you laughing out loud.

What three words would you use to best describe ‘GPS with Benefits’?

Hilarious, sexy and cute.

Can you tell us a bit about your other screenplays?
A GOOD MAN - a full-length screenplay - is currently in production. The main character, Louis, is a good man: a vegetarian, who feeds the homeless, takes care of animals and is concerned with the ecological future of the planet. But his altruism has a sinister edge – he’s a vampire – and local detective Taglioni is becoming increasingly suspicious. Louis‘ attempt to escape the police will take him on a journey into his own private hell where he is not only forced to confront his worst fears, but also to destroy the lives of those he cares about most.
Apart from A GOOD MAN, I published two supernatural thrillers, DROWNED SORROW and THE STRANGERS OUTSIDE.

What are you’re working on at the moment?
I’m writing a new supernatural thriller combining ghosts and cats. It will be an illustrated novel.

Random Questions
-          What’s your favourite treat? Cheesecake and olives.
-          What’s your Favourite place to read/write? In the almost empty airport at night or in the comfort of my own bed.
-          If you won the lottery what would you most look forward to spending money on? A house, travels and restaurants.
-          If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? I wouldn’t mind a house near the beach.

Zyra soon finds herself an unwilling participant in events that lead to a climactic showdown between the most powerful worlds in the galaxy.

However, her distrust of Skringler gives way to lust, unraveling her plans. Will Zyra give into her passion and allow Skringler to go free? Kevis Hendrickson

Hi Kevis! Welcome to the blog!

When did you start writing?

I’ve been writing as long as I can remember. But I definitely got struck with the muse when I was a kid. All I dreamt of was being able to tell stories about the people in my head and hope that other people would find them just as interesting as I did. For me, it was never a question of would I become a writer, but rather when could I do it full time as a professional.

Can you tell us a bit about ‘Rogue Hunter: Inquest’ and your Inspiration for it?

Rogue Hunter: Inquest came about through a series of remarkable circumstances. The heroine of the story, Zyra Zanr, existed before in an older line of books. However, I was unhappy with those stories and wanted to go in a completely different direction. While the older books were influenced by my love of Star Wars, the new books drew inspiration from some of the darker aspects of life.

In the case of Inquest, I felt the need to explore themes related to society’s treatment of women. In the headlines right now, you can read reports of religious extremists who have shot a 12-year-old girl in the head just because she wants to go to school. Throughout history women have been treated quite barbarically and I wanted to turn the tables and deal with an all-female society that is not only self-sufficient, but thriving. Technology has advanced to point where they have no need for men in their society and interestingly, have created a utopia where women have no need to fear sexism or abuse. I have to admit, if I were a woman, I would love to live on their world!

However, these women face aggression from the males who they ousted from their world as well as an expansionist government who seek to dominate and control them. Against this political backdrop, the main character Zyra Zanr has to face her inner demons, only to learn that she has the power to decide the ultimate fate of this female world. I think readers will find Zyra’s plight both compelling and heartbreaking.

What three words would you use to best describe ‘Rogue Hunter: Inquest’?

Out of Bounds!

Can you tell us a bit about Zyra Zanr, the main character in ‘Rogue Hunter: Inquest’?

Zyra Zanr is, by far, my personal favorite character in fiction. She is a beautiful, but strong woman who makes her own rules. This causes her lots of problems as her path in life sometimes puts her at odds with society. In fact, her lone wolf mentality often gets her into trouble. But it’s interesting to watch her solve her problems as she struggles to right the wrongs in her life as well as others. I find her to be quite inspirational and a good role model for both women and men.

One of the things that I find interesting about Zyra is that her occupation is quite harsh and not one women are expected to perform. To be a competent bounty hunter in Zyra’s universe, one must be willing to get their hands dirty. Very dirty. However, Zyra not only excels at her job, she’s the ‘grande dame of bounty hunters’ and the standard by which other bounty hunters are measured.

Is ‘Rogue Hunter: Inquest’ a standalone novel or will this be part of a series?

There are definitely more Rogue Hunter books on the way. Inquest is only the start of what I plan to be a series of books centered around Zyra’s adventures. I can’t give away anything yet, but I can assure you, the story is going to get really intense!

Can you tell us about your other books?

My tastes in literature as a reader are varied. But as an author, I’ve staked my claim in the field of speculative fiction. Fantasy, science fiction, and horror is what I’m into. I’ve written books about reborn demonesses as well as family-friendly fantasy adventures about children trying to save their kingdom from an evil queen. Anyone interested in learning more about my books can do so by visiting my website at www.kevishendrickson.weebly.com

Can you tell us what you’re working on at the moment?

I am currently working on the sequel to Rogue Hunter: Inquest and hope to have it ready for readers before the spring of 2013.

Other than your own, what are your favourite books?

I’m a big fan of mythology and the classics. Surprisingly, I don’t read that much science fiction or fantasy, but prefer to read books on History or poetry, or the works of the old masters like Shakespeare, Voltaire, Swift, and Homer. My all-time favorite book is The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Random Questions
-          what’s your favourite treat? Wine, in all of its many delicious varieties.
-          What’s your Favourite place to read/write? In the comfort of my home.
-          If you won the lottery what would you most look forward to spending money on? Financing my first independent film.
-          If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? In my own medieval castle stuffed with all the expected niceties like wine, women, and song!
